OVERVIEW

A West Side dance hall on the old Highway 90 corridor is the setting for one of San Antonio's best-documented urban legends. As the story goes, on Halloween 1975 a handsome, elegantly dressed stranger charmed the dance floor until a partner looked down and saw clawed feet or hooves; he is said to have fled and vanished, leaving a sulfurous smell.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

The tale, catalogued by regional folklorists as a "dance with the devil" legend, endures locally, with patrons over the years claiming lingering odors and unease at the site.
