OVERVIEW

An Italianate mansion begun in 1860 for General Hugh W. Mercer and completed after the Civil War, later restored by antiques dealer Jim Williams, whose 1981 shooting of assistant Danny Hansford and four subsequent trials inspired the book and film "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Visitors and staff report apparitions, phantom footsteps, and a strong sense of being watched, much of it tied by legend to the deaths connected with the house.

VISITING

Open to the public for guided tours of the ground floor.
