OVERVIEW

Perched on an island at the mouth of the Kennebec River, Seguin is Maine's second-oldest light station, first lit in 1795 under George Washington's order and rebuilt in 1857 with the state's only first-order Fresnel lens.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Local legend holds a 19th-century keeper's wife played the same tune on an isolated piano until her husband killed her in a rage before taking his own life; fishermen and keepers have long reported piano music carrying on the wind and glimpses of a girl's apparition.

VISITING

Accessible seasonally by boat tour; grounds and museum open to visitors in summer months.
