OVERVIEW

A small South Shore fishing village where, late on 4 October 1967, multiple residents watched four orange lights descend and strike the water off the harbour; the RCMP, the Halifax Rescue Coordination Centre and the RCAF all filed reports, and the records are held by Library and Archives Canada.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Searchers found no wreckage but reported a yellow foam on the surface; after confirming no aircraft were missing, the authorities logged the object as a UFO by definition — a designation that remains in the official record. A follow-up naval search recovered nothing.

VISITING

The village is public; the Shag Harbour UFO Incident Society operates a seasonal interpretive centre.
