OVERVIEW

Founded in 1613 along the James River and continuously operated by the same family since 1638, Shirley Plantation is one of the oldest family businesses in America and a National Historic Landmark.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

The best-known story involves a portrait of "Aunt Pratt"; when a past owner moved the painting to the attic, reported disturbances in the house stopped only after it was returned to its place on the wall.

VISITING

Open to the public for tours of the house and grounds.
