OVERVIEW

On April 3, 1898, a series of avalanches swept the Chilkoot Trail above Dyea, burying stampeders under tons of snow; an estimated 60 to 70 victims were recovered and buried together in what became known as Slide Cemetery, now part of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Visitors to the cemetery and the adjoining Dyea ghost town describe an unusual heaviness, faint voices, and figures glimpsed among the trees, which local guides tie to the scale of the sudden loss on the trail.
