Sloss Furnaces
FOLLOWBirmingham, AL
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
A blast-furnace ironworks that operated in Birmingham from 1882 to 1971, now preserved as a National Historic Landmark and industrial museum; the dangerous 12-hour shifts and extreme heat contributed to numerous worker deaths and injuries over its history.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Visitors and staff report voices, footsteps, clanging metal, sudden cold spots, and shadowy figures, most often described near the furnaces at night; local lore has attached these to a disputed foreman legend, though the site's real 19th-century worker fatalities are well documented.
VISITING
Open to the public as a museum with regular tours and seasonal haunted events.
