OVERVIEW

One of the Isles of Shoals off the New Hampshire coast, long associated with legends that Blackbeard buried treasure and left a bride in the islands; in 1873 two Norwegian women, Karen and Anethe Christensen, were murdered here, a crime for which fisherman Louis Wagner was tried and hanged.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Visitors and boaters report an apparition said to be a woman awaiting a ship that never returned, and unease near the site of the 1873 killings.

VISITING

The island is undeveloped; the Isles are reached by seasonal boat tours.
