OVERVIEW
Springbrook is remnant Gondwanan rainforest on the rim of the Tweed volcano, part of the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage area. The hinterland has been a persistent focus of yowie reports through the twentieth century and into this one.
HISTORY
Accounts of a large hairy hominid in eastern Australia appear in colonial-era newspapers from the nineteenth century, and versions of such a being exist in the traditions of several Aboriginal nations, under many names.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
No physical evidence has ever withstood examination. The reports are numerous, geographically consistent, and unsupported.
VISITING
Open national park with walking tracks; the escarpment is steep and the weather changes fast.
