OVERVIEW
A striking red Victorian mansion in Bangor's West Broadway historic district, purchased by Stephen and Tabitha King in 1980 and long a pilgrimage site for horror fans; its wrought-iron fence is decorated with bats, spiders, and a three-headed dragon.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
No hauntings are formally documented at the house itself, but it is widely cited by tour guides and fans as a spiritual epicenter of King's fictional "Derry," and visitors report an uneasy, watched feeling at the fence line after dark.
VISITING
Exterior viewable from the public sidewalk only; not open to the public. As of 2026 the property houses the Kings' writer-residency foundation.
