OVERVIEW
A lakeside mansion on West Bay Lake built as a fishing lodge and later purchased in 1916 by Robert P. Lamont; it stood abandoned for years before a 1988 lightning-strike fire left only the fieldstone foundation and chimneys.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
A 1979 book claimed the house was haunted by 18th-century explorer Jonathan Carver, and a 1980 Life magazine feature spread the legend nationally; former residents disputed the stories, which locals say began only after the book's publication.
VISITING
On private land; the ruins are not open to the public.
