OVERVIEW

An 1852 house and former tavern in Clinton (once Surrattsville), home of Mary Surratt, who in 1865 became the first woman executed by the U.S. government for her role in the Lincoln conspiracy. John Wilkes Booth stopped here during his escape.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Staff have noted unexplained noises over the years; some attribute activity to Mary Surratt or to tenant John Lloyd, though the museum itself is careful not to assert a haunting.

VISITING

Open to the public as a museum operated by M-NCPPC.
