OVERVIEW

A brick 1785 townhouse where Henry Wadsworth Longfellow grew up, now a historic house museum operated by the Maine Historical Society and one of the oldest standing structures on the Portland peninsula.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Guides and visitors describe a lingering presence attributed to Anne Longfellow Pierce, the poet's sister, who lived in the house until her death in 1901; the museum runs seasonal "Longfellow's Haunted House" tours inspired by his poem of the same name.

VISITING

Open to the public for tours through the Maine Historical Society.
