THE OBJECT
A club of olive wood, about 40 cm long, with a handle for a firm grip, kept in the Museo Etnografico Galluras — 'the Femina Agabbadora Museum' — at via Nazionale 35a, Luras, Sardinia.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The accabadora (from Spanish acabar, 'to end') was the woman called to a deathbed to end a hopeless agony; the regional culture portal calls the mallet 'the famous and macabre hammer that in the past was used by sas accabadoras'. How widespread the practice was, and when it ended, are disputed.
