THE OBJECT
Ötzi, a natural mummy of about 3300 BC found on 19 September 1991 by Helmut and Erika Simon in the Ötztal Alps, with his clothing and equipment. Examined in Innsbruck, he has been on display at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano since 1998. Human remains: the entry is about the 'curse', and is written as such.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
HOAX (a press invention). The press counted seven deaths: Rainer Henn (car crash, a year after the recovery), Kurt Fritz (avalanche), Rainer Hölz (brain tumour), Helmut Simon (fall, found 23 October 2004), Dieter Warnecke (heart attack after Simon's funeral), Konrad Spindler (multiple sclerosis), Tom Loy (a hereditary blood disease diagnosed about 1992). James M. Deem's review: the numbers are what you would expect among the many people involved, and 'there is no such curse, no matter what the media reports.'
